It's Potty Time in Tennessee

Oh, yes, the potty chair has been looming over my head now like a bad raincloud...my evil arch nemesis. As Lucy's football is to Charlie Brown, so is the potty to me. I'm telling Aidan that when we sing "Happy Birthday" to him he should start using the potty. He's been obsessed with going to the bathroom with us for a long time now...there is nothing sacred in this house. He waves bye-bye to the water when we flush the potty. He has sat on his potty wearing his diaper first, then his bare bottom. He knows pee-pee and poo-poo go in the potty...just not his. I've read everything imaginable about how to teach a child to use the potty. I've toyed with the idea of buying the potty monkey (http://www.pottymd.com/PottyMonkey.asp) to help him since he likes Curious George. I've bought him Thomas the Train underpants. I guess the issue really lies within me. I'm not sure if I'm ready to potty train. This is a big deal. When I think about how easy it is to "go" in diapers, I'm a little jealous. I don't know how many times I've had to leave Walmart because I sneezed and well...you can imagine the rest. I could have finished shopping if I had been wearing a diaper! Anyway, I digress. I think part of my problem is that Aidan is turning into an independent little boy in such a short amount of time. First it's the potty, then it's off to kindergarten, then graduation, and so on.

Oh well, as for now, at least he is using the potty for something....

Happy 4 months, Conner!

Maybe this is why there are safety straps on a baby swing....

Conner is 4 months old today...as of 12:24 pm. Hard to believe this time 4 months ago I was in recovery after a c-section. It's been a long and short 4 months. He's sleeping through the night now and has been for about a month..and "through the night" really means through the night: I can put him down for nite-nite between 7:30 and 9:30 and he's out until 6:30 or 7 am the next morning! I never thought he would sleep through the night. He was constantly getting up every 2-3 hours hungry. Just when I thought I couldn't take it anymore, he slept from 7 pm to 7 am. Of course I stayed up until 1 am staring at him, waiting for him to wake up.

Aidan loves him. Aidan is jealous of him. I can't take a picture of Conner without hearing Aidan say, "No, Mama, take picture of Aidan-not Conner." Ah, life with a baby and a toddler. Speaking of Aidan, he has a birthday next week! I really can't believe he will be 2 years old! His favorite word is "no," he loves playing with his cars, he loves to swim, and just when I am on the brink of insanity with his whining, he stops, smiles, and says "I love you, Mama."

Now to get a little serious...I can't help it! I'm sentimental about my kids right now. I believe God has revealed a part of himself to me through my children. The first child, whom we lost, taught me to have faith in God. Real faith. I am reminded of a verse from Romans- Romans 8:28: "And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose." Aidan taught me how to have hope in God. I remember the agony of trying to have a baby. The months that would go by and still no positive on the pregnancy stick. And Conner- well Conner has taught me how to trust God. I remember the day I found out I was expecting him: July 22, 2006. I was holding a barely one-year old Aidan in one hand and a positive Clear Blue Easy in the other. How in the world could I possibly handle 2 children!!?? That's when I heard a small voice say, "Don't worry- trust me." It ain't easy but I can't imagine my life any other way.

Third time's a charm...

This is my third attempt to keep a blog. The first time I tried it was when I turned 30. I named my journal "thirtysomething." Oh how I was being so clever and original! I had one entry. The next attempt was after Aidan was born. I actually had more than three entries, and some are rather enjoyable to read if I may toot my own horn. Here's the address:

Now, this attempt will be to blog about not only Aidan but my newest edition to the family: Conner.

Aidan will be two years old next month. I know at some point in time he swallowed some Flubber because that boy bounces everywhere! He is nonstop until he crashes into something. Then he drinks some juice, has some Goldfish crackers, and he's up and bouncing everywhere again!

Conner is almost four months so I thank God that I have only one mobile child right now. He's been showing us a glimpse into his personality for the past month or so. He loves to talk and giggle and drool! I have to change his outfit at least four times a day because they become soaked in drool. Perhaps I should use that thing they call a "bib" now.

Time to call it quits for this entry...I hear one of the kids waking up from an afternoon nap.
